Archway Studio Living

I've Been Housesitting over Christmas in an Amazing studio in Archway. Living with Sami the cat has meant early starts and one hell of a productive month...

Ive been recording music, lots of it... Dreaming of producing a complete object... Ill put some up when the albums finished!

Yes I did say ALBUM.

Its terrible, but somehow the best thing I've EVER done.

Salute The Page!

Just another page coloured and good to go. Ho humm...

Words will follow images... My own little rebellion to the "screen writing" style of comic creation... Time will tell if it pays off.

More PAINT artwork. Just a digital doodle...

Cap Heroic and his Nemesis (lit) Crippling Insecurity.

"Depression might flicker in but it does not live here"

Digital Tears...

What do digital tears look like... Another day, another page for le grand Bande Dessin! (or whatever...)

I found "Save me the Waltz" by Zelda Fitzgerald... Tis most assuredly hard going, and it doesn't exactly flow, however I have faith...

More Paint

More pretty pictures from Paint.
Inspired by Matisse's "The Thousand And One Nights". The middle has a wonderful Joann Sfar feel to it, I think... Um, or not. Anyhoo its in progress at present.

Maybe I will do a whole comic strip on paint...We must show respect to Kevin Costner & PAINT!

Do you remember PAINT?

Do you remember a time when it was the only creative tool to make use of during ICT lessons at school?

I painted a pretty picture using paint.

Childish Voyage... Um

Just another page in my wee introspective comic... It's a dreamscape by the way... Representing the loss of Naive Childish Creativity in so much of my work... I dont want to over explain or analyse, as I'm attempting to retain what little innocence remains.

Lost Princessess

The first of a series of lost and found posters im working on.... The lost princesses, original images taken from the ad campaigns of a large clothing company, whose adverts feature highly sexually charged images of (mostly) young women.

The images themselves are I believe sent in by the women to be used by this company, an interesting advertising gimmick to be sure... certain stories circulate about the head of the companies sexual habits...

The Lost Princessess... A wee bit patronising?

Tuesday, 12 October 2010

My thoughts exactly on moving to Golders Green.

I now have a wee bit more space, guess I've no excuse not to... CREATE!!!

Apart from my crippling insecurities.

Page 10

Here's the 10th page, all tinted blue, because its night time not daytime, silly.

I've been listening to a lot of Mott the Hoople over the last few days. Because the do surely rock. And roll, glamorously.

Drawer Boy

No words yet, Text following Pictures, Just small panels, drawn one after another, building a narrative page after page, then edited & coloured with Gouache. The edited again. Phew.

So far I've gotten 10 pages done. I do dearly love comic's, I hope I can make something truly astoundingly great utilising the medium.

Still Life

He's dreaming you see...

In an attempt to create a 'Still comic', I figure these scenes will need to be stretched to give a greater feeling of the slow passing of time, and to better depict the stillness of life. Perhaps an additional two-three pages on these moments will suffice...

Not quite sure what I'm blathering about, but it's going to be Great!

Unless it turns out not to be, or I get sidetracked or something...

More On Trading

So here, presented in glorious RGB colour for the first time... The first 20 trading cards, the end goal is around 40-45.

Can a comic ever create as still and meaningful a story as 'Cafe Lumiere', or 'In the City of Sylvia'?

A new goal? Unfortunately my drawing is not consistent enough to create what I desire at the moment... But I'll keep a'trying.

Fin, Parts 1-4.

Death of a superhero. What if he is just the wrong man. Not the wrong time, or place. He is simply the wrong person.
The "hero" who cant save anything.

Keep on Keep'in On Up...

Oddly productive, now that I've left university, I guess Im trying to prove something or other...
I will be returning to comics shortly (promise), although I must admit to seeing these pieces as panels on a comic page. Viewed as such the arrangement was particularly considered, blah de blah.
No juxtaposition between words and images as such, however a good title will do just as well... Ho humm.

Sunday, 18 July 2010

Yesterday I decided to put aside any worries and issues about my drawing skills, and simply drew, drawing all night, I produced quite a bit of carp, but out of nowhere three doodle emerged.
Born/Drown. Triptych each panel 29.70 X 42 cm.

Draw, Drawer Draw!

Heres a drawing for a poster I'm attempting to create. the key word being Attempting hummn.
Its for the play 'Drawer Boy' written by Michael Healy, which a fellow I'm aquianted with is putting on in the near future. But designing for others is hard (I remain as yet uncertain of my ability to convey their ideas).
Time will tell.

Listening to Le Grand Choral by Georges Delerue, really really beautiful (and concice) piece of music. I think im in love.
Check out some darn fine crayon illustrations at www.yanaelkassova.com

Marc Bolan & T.Rex

Music is important.
Marc Bolan (& T. Rex) Make amazing music.
My cassette player broke (sob) so I couldn't listen to their music anymore.
I spent quite awhile looking for a compilation with one specific track. Most miss out 'Ride a White Swan', (my favorite) but on wednesday I found one that had it. And Scenescof too!!! wheeeee.
So i did this doodle.

Monday, 7 June 2010

Romantic Ideal?

I figure the next issue of Nervous in a cape's going to be about romance et al.
Not that im one to get hung up about it or anything.
No sirreee, not me.

Spider-man Rocks! Batman Rolls...back to Gotham!

After conversation with a fellow about Batman/Spiderman. the above drawing sums up my feelings of the two characters.
Batman is a great character and all, The Chris Nolan films are awesome, as was the West and Keaton batmen. The Dark Knight remains an amazing comic.
But there's no real connection to his character. Just like Tony Stark (aka Iron Man). They're just rich guys with suits right?
Spidey's different. Although Batman was my original childhood hero (and my first words really were "Mattman") Spiderman is far easier to relate to. particularly the Dikto/Lee Spidey/ Spidy of the first two films. He's just a geek/nerd/loser.
And he reads comics.

I Can Fly

Yep. So.
I can fly.
Not really, silly, but I have gloves now for my captain heroic costume. And the cape is finished!!!! wheee!!!!
I think I may leave it for people to wear during my degree show.

theres a vast amount of ASTOUNDING power in this costume. Pow Wham Etc!!!

Another old sketch

I continued leafing through my old sketchbook today, and found my favorite drawing from Japan. Thought I'd put it out there. Ho humm.
Its worth noting that I'd discovered the travelouge drawings of Feliks Topolski shortly before I went to Japan. His drawings are amazingly free and capture the esssence...blah blah blah.
In Short; they're amazing. Simple as.

Captain Heroic Exists!

Shocking images prove the existance of Captain Heroic.
This is the best thing ever. perhaps.
Just like Kick-Ass! only better.

Old Sketch

Looking through old sketchbooks is an amazing thing to do, so long as you leave a suitable amount of time before you indulge yourself. Heres a part of Fukuoka castle which had been restored to its former glory, it was a beautiful sunny day, my last in Japan, far too hot, I spent it walking around Hakata and within the park, the castle grounds were the only peaceful calm space I found . drawn last year. Rediscovered yesterday. ho humm

70's Abe

Did You Know???
Abe used to be cool. Before he lost it. Only joking. He never had it. Self portraiture. Pah, Bah! overindulging ones ego. But necessary perhaps?

More T-Shirts

Second set of T-Shirts printed. It says "SIGH". This T-shirt fills me with less AWESOME POWER then the first, but it possesses more UMMM HUMM POWER. So everything balences out in the end.

Saturday, 15 May 2010

Kendo is HARD.
I guess its about practice. Or something or other. Iwant to be good at something Even with my own awesome powers, and T-shirts... still, Kendo is hard.
It has a beautiful aesthetic when done well. I'll keep doing my ugly, bad Kendo untill it gets better. But when will that be!?!?

Digital Hero!

Did You Know???
Captain Heroic exists in an amazing digital form!!!
Here's the opening to his comic:
"The good Captain lives in THE CITY.
A melancholic and nostalgic romantic,
he lives in the hope of saving the girl of his dreams."
"Yet sadly the girl continues to elude him,
to make matters worse, he fell in love with MYSTERY girl, his biggest detractor."

I got the whole digital idea from James Kochalka's site (he's one of the GREATEST comics artists. ho humm) His sketch book diaries are both Silly and profound, and at 11 years and counting, a substantial record of life et al.

"If you build it He will come"

Heroes are important.
Many people react to Kevin Costner poorly. Tis a shame, because he remains a talented director, and king of deadpan acting. Lets not forget 'Dances' 'Bull Durham' or 'Open Range'. Sure 'The Postman' gets a bit silly: "I. Believe. In. The. United States of AMERICA!" but lets not blacklist him because of a few funny, silly films. Ho humm.

Wednesday, 12 May 2010

Today I screen printed... wheeee.
Making more t-shirts for my degree show. When I wear this t-shirt I can feel THE POWER coursing through me. Zam! Pow! Blam! Im certain the same will be true for anyone who decided to buy one at my shirts. Being a superhero is easy.

Magical City

A photo o' Paris I took with my lovely ol' PRACTIKA a few years ago.
Its one of the images I chose to put into the degree show catalouge as representative of my practice... gasp... no drawing, but its still a series of images and text. so its a comic right. yep. yes sir. I guess.

Only 1 & 1/2 months to go to the degree show. "sob"

cinema life

Did you know ???
Abe works in a classy cinema. Just whilst finishing his degree.
Im very lucky to have such a great job. Like many jobs its good to complain about...But its probably the best I'll ever have.
We showed Lu Chuang's 'City of Life and Death' (or 'Nanking! Nanking!') one of the saddest and most profound films I have EVER seen.
You NEED to see it. Perhaps?
Cinema life is free films and coffee. And no popcorn. wheeeeee
A web presence. At last...
I guess my existance is validified now? ho humm...
Or is this just another place for me to whine publicly through drawings... time will tell.

The above is the final picture in a six panel comic starring CAPTAIN HEROIC.

Did you know ???

The good captain lives in THE CITY.
A melancholic and nostalgic romantic,
he lives in the hope of saving the girl of his dreams.
